FAQ

Careful protective packaging for a Jian Zhan tea cup before U.S. shipment

Questions before you choose a cup

FAQ

Below are the most common questions about Jian Zhan materials, glaze variation, shipping, care, and choosing a cup from Mo Lan.

Product and Craft

Are the cups handmade?

Jian Zhan cups are made through ceramic forming, glazing, firing, and selection. Subtle differences in profile, glaze flow, speckling, and color are expected and are part of the character of the craft.

Will my cup look exactly like the photos?

We use product-specific photos whenever possible, including dual-view images. Screen color and lighting can vary, but the listed cup is presented to show its actual glaze personality as clearly as we can.

What are hare's-fur and oil-spot glazes?

They are traditional names for visual effects in Jian-style glazes. Hare's-fur usually refers to fine vertical streaking, while oil spot describes clustered metallic or crystal-like speckles.

Why do some cups cost more?

Price reflects glaze clarity, visual rarity, form, finish, selection quality, and the limited quantity available. Most Mo Lan pieces are single-quantity listings.

Origin and Story

Why is Jianyang important?

Jianyang in Fujian is closely associated with historic Jian ware and the ceramic culture that made dark tea bowls famous in the Song dynasty. We use this context to explain the aesthetic language behind the cups.

Are the page images documentary photos?

Some product photos show actual cups. The atmosphere images on About, Craftsmanship, and FAQ are visual impressions created to explain environment, history, and process. They should be read as educational brand imagery, not documentary proof of a specific workshop.

How should I care for Jian Zhan?

Rinse with warm water and use mild dish soap when needed. Avoid abrasive pads, sudden extreme temperature changes, microwaves, and dishwashers unless a specific listing says otherwise.

Can I return a cup?

Please review our Shipping & Returns and Refund Policy pages before ordering. If something is wrong with your order, contact us promptly with your order number and photos.

How do I choose my first cup?

If you want warmth, look at copper or golden moss tones. If you want a cooler, dramatic surface, start with blue oil spot or frost moon styles. Choose the cup that makes you want to make tea.
